Rise Up & Walk – Learning Beyond the Classroom
Cultural Field Trips
A key part of the Rise Up and Walk experience is taking learning beyond the classroom through carefully chosen, culturally enriching field trips that bring history, creativity and identity to life.
This term, the girls visited Firepit Gallery in Greenwich, where they explored the cultural significance of Kente cloth before creating their own Kente-inspired necklaces with designer & facilitator Nicola Reid, who also curated their African-inspired fashion show finale!
More than a creative workshop, the experience invited the girls to learn about African heritage, symbolism and storytelling through design, celebrating culture not just as something to admire, but something to understand, embody and proudly express.
“I enjoyed the creativity, especially being able to design my necklace using the colours of the flags from different African & Caribbean countries.”

Another highlight was a trip to Sadler’s Wells East, where the girls watched a hip-hop re-imagining of the classic Scrooge, allowing them to see themselves represented on stage and within the world of the arts.

These experiences help our creatively gifted girls feel included, inspired, and confident in their right to take up space wherever their talents and ambitions lead them.
